Flushing Family Residence Partnership - Bushwick Shelter Fund

This is Ms. Robles (pictured here with Daphna and Rabbi Misha Shulman), the dedicated and deeply compassionate director of Flushing Family Residence, a family shelter in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The shelter is home to 98 families.

For the past eight years, we’ve partnered with Ms. Robles to provide essential support: food, clothing, school supplies, and more. But today, the needs are more urgent than ever.

Recent program cuts—including sanctuary programs and fresh food deliveries—have left undocumented families without access to basic essentials like milk, eggs, and bread. These families now rely solely on pantry staples. Staffing has also been slashed; most recently, the shelter lost its only recreational coordinator, who had been supporting working parents with child care and summer activities.

Despite these challenges, Ms. Robles continues to do extraordinary work. With the closure of other sanctuary shelters under current administration, Flushing Family Residence has had to take in even more families—often without the space or supplies to do so.

Beineinu and The New Shul has now adopted Flushing Family Residence to provide long-term, ongoing support.

Our goal is to provide fresh food, school supplies and clothing as well as organizing meaningful community events and volunteer initiatives in partnership with local residents. Additionally, pairing B’mitzvah students with the shelter for a Mitzvah project would be a wonderful way to foster connection and service.

Working with a leader like Ms. Robles is a rare privilege. Every dollar you give goes directly to families in New York City who need it most.

Your donation is tax-deductible through The New Shul.
